How To Host a Unity Multiplayer Docker Game Server on Google Cloud
As a follow up to the previous Multiplayer Overview video ( • Unity Multiplayer SDKs and Managed & ... ), I wanted to do a small tutorial on how you can go about self hosting your own game server. In this video, we will be using the MobiledgeX Open Source Edge Multiplay Server that is written in NodeJS and also available as a Docker Image. With that, we will be using Docker Desktop to create an image of the build, upload that to Docker Hub, and then run the image on a Virtual Machine Instance on Google Cloud.
Once we have the server up and running on Google Cloud, we will then be able to easily plug in the IP Address to the Edge Multiplay SDK provided by MobiledgeX in order to test out our newly setup server.
