A few weeks ago I was escorted to an undisclosed location where security guards were guarding a prototype unit of the new unreleased Meta Quest Pro. Today they officially announced it, so now I can share it!!
In the past, I've declined sharing videos on my page about other augmented reality glasses / headsets because I didn't like them...
But I have to give credit where credit is due. I chose to make this video bc I think it's an amazing product.
(At least that's my first impression! Since it was unreleased, I only got a few hours with it)
This is the first augmented reality headset I'm actually excited about, and I've tried a bunch of AR glasses/headsets over the years.
I have two main issues with other AR headsets -
1. Field of View
If you've ever tried other AR glasses, you might know what I'm talking about - the AR experience is constrained to a tiny rectangle in front of you. This is a technical limitation due to those headsets/glasses using transparent glass. But the Meta Quest Pro doesn't use transparent glass. This headset is actually completely opaque. It has 10 cameras, which are used to construct the world around you to create the illusion that it's transparent. This gives it a FULL field of view that's immersive
2. Headset discomfort
I've had so many issues with various headsets. My main struggle with the Meta Quest 1 & 2 is that I find it to be too heavy, so I can't wear it for long periods. But this new one, the Meta Quest Pro, was actually quite comfortable. I asked the engineers about it and was surprised to learn that this headset is not lighter, even though it feels MUCH lighter. They achieved this through weight distribution. The design is like a crown that rests on your head - so it feels more like wearing a hat, than like wearing goggles.
These two things - field of view and headset comfort, are not the sexiest features necessarily, but for me they were the most exciting features bc they are what I need in order to actually see myself using an AR headset. The future is here, y'all!
