Most neuroscientists conclude, after stating that we are our brain, that there is no such thing as free will, and that our brain decides how we operate. Dennett does not share this view, and states that the free will does exist, even if there is no such thing as a soul

De meeste neurowetenschappers concluderen, na gesteld te hebben dat we ons brein zijn, dat er niet zoiets bestaat als vrije wil, en dat ons brein bepaalt hoe we handelen. Dennett deelt deze mening niet en stelt dat de vrije wil bestaat, zelfs als er niet zoiets bestaat als een ziel.
