A Dutchman's 60 years affair with Japan
My friend and former colleague Hans Brinckmann. My site features dozens of clips in which he appears. The subjects include his life in Japan in the 1950s; his 1964 cruise and tour through East and South Asia; and his seven-year stay in New York in the 1980s. He is particularly well versed in Japanese culture, having lived there on and off for over sixty years. He first arrived in Japan from Holland as an 18 year old youngster to work for a Dutch bank and stayed 24 years. I was best man at his marriage to the attractive Toyoko Yoshida of a prominent Nagoya family in 1959. After becoming general manager for Japan, he met many prominent personalities, including the Japanese premier and Crown Prince (now Emperor) Akihito and present Empress Michiko (in the sub-title wrongly referred to as Masako). After Japan Hans worked for other international banks in top functions until he quit banking in 1988 to devote himself to writing. In 2003 he returned to Japan and still lives in Tokyo where he has written several books of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. You may read all about this on his website http://habri.jp/e/main_e.html.
