Lettering is an important part of any engineering drawing (ED). The purpose of learning Lettering in ED is to practice simple and standard way of writing any letter, word, phrase, sentence or number such that anyone reading your drawing can easily understand what you have written. Never use your own handwriting way of lettering or any other non-standard way. Just little bit of practice will make your writing legible to everybody. Practice the height and proportions of the letter as well as distances between two words and between two lines. As you practice, you will not need to measure them each time. You will be able to write using ED lettering method without much hassle. Use 2H pencil for lettering too so that the drawing remains neat and clean. Never use HB pencils. There are styles of lettering known as style A and B. You can use either of them in your ED but keep to only one way in one ED.
Correction: The way I have written W at these times (7:24, 8:19, 10:59 and 12:45) is not correct because the middle should come up to the same level as the total height of the letter. It has been written correctly at time 15:36. Same way is followed for smaller letter of "w". Please follow this one.
