AGPtek HD Video Game Capture (VG0025)
NOTE 1: For PS4 users - before plugging this device in you must go into your PS4 Settings-System-
'Enable HDMI Device Link' = Tick box,
'Enable HDCP' = Untick box.
If you don't do this first then you wont get any picture through the device. You must switch these settings back once you disconnect the capture card if you want to use Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc.
Sorry I can't help you with Xbox set up as I don't have access to one to try.
NOTE 2: Due to the fact there are separate jacks for 'headphones' and 'mic', if your headset has only ONE 3.5mm jack on the end of it's lead, in order to record audio from your headset you will need a splitter cable adapter. These are on Amazon for around £5. This is explained more in my video.
This came in a nice box with the usual documentation. It also came with a small remote control which is a great feature as you wont have to keep getting up or reaching the device to star or stop recording. On the control you can also set the video quality (1080p/720p) but there is no feedback to whether it has changed. But I found it worked every time but it would've been nice to have had some sort of light flash or something to know it worked.
On the remote you can also change the input type from HDMI, composite, and component cable. You can also take a screenshot with a press of a button!
So it was really simple to set this up. Plug a HDMI cable (not included) into your game console, plug other end into capture cards 'IN' slot. Then plug another HDMI into the cards 'OUT' slot and then into your TV.
So on the front of the device itself there are two HDMI ports (IN and OUT), two 3.5mm jacks (HEADPHONES and MIC) and an AV port (for component cable (included) for use with PS3 Xbox Original and Nintendo WII etc).
On the one side there is a MINI USB port for use with the power cable (included with power adapter) and also used to plug into PC.
The other side has a USB port for using with a USB pen drive to record your videos on, and also a SD Card slot for the same purpose.
On the top there is the record button. This button seems more of a plastic tab than a button and has no label on it. Strange!
The device itself feels light and a little 'cheap'. But don't let this put you off as it works very well.
So when your ready to record just hit the little plastic tab at the top of the device or the record button on the remote. Note there is a 5 second delay before it actually starts to capture, so once you hit record count to five before starting your action. Note though that you won't be able to hear your voice through the device while recording. You just have to have faith that it is being recorded.
The result of the recordings are great! HD quality with great audio.
Personally I would record my voice on my phone by plugging my headset to my phone and using a voice recorder app (for Android I use 'HD Audio Recorder Pro' (it's free) and so long as you press the 'PCM' button at the bottom, it is great quality). This way you can put them together in a video editor (I use Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 13 (around £35 on Amazon)) and adjust the audio levels to get the right mix.
So all in all I am very impressed with this device. I have a Hauppauge PVR Rocket Capture device which cost a lot more than this and is basically the same in recording quality so I am disappointed I didn't find this earlier and give it a go :( I would definitely go for this one as the price difference versus the quality difference is not worth the extra money. The only thing the Rocket has over this is design and the fact it comes with a clip on microphone. But then this one has a remote which I think is of more importance as most gamers already have a mic or headset to use. Oh and there is the ability to adjust the mic volume on the Rocket. But tbh you still can't hear your voice while recording so you never really sure how loud it is.
