I've been testing Sony's PSVR headset on the PS5 and sadly it's not the simple, next-gen experience you might hope for. Here's how to setup the Playstation VR gear on your PS5 to play those virtual reality games, a review of how it all works and also - where's our PSVR 2 dammit?
Now, to get that PS4 kit working on Sony's new console, you'll have to apply on the UK website for a special camera adapter. That's because the old Playstation cam doesn't work otherwise - while the new HD Cam also isn't compatible with VR. Thankfully the adapter is free.
With that delivered, you can setup the PSVR on your PS5 as usual. Unfortunately the new DualSense controller won't work with Playstation VR, so you have to get gaming with the DualShock or those Move controllers.
At least all of your old PSVR games work fine on the new Sony console, but only if you use those original PS4 versions. Apparently the enhanced-for-PS5 titles that originally had VR support like No Man's Sky will lose that functionality. Bums.
So my review of the PSVR experience on this new gaming tower would be: awkward and seemingly a second thought, but at least you can still get that old VR headset working at no extra cost. Here's hoping the PSVR 2 comes along pronto, though.
