I get this question often enough from patients that I thought it would be worthwhile to make a video about it. It’s the topic of kickbacks to the referring provider for cataract surgery.
Professional articles in both Optometry and Ophthalmology journals have been discussing the illegality automatic kickbacks for cataract patient referrals for the past year. In this video, I hope to shed light and transparency on this illegal practice for our patients. Make sure you’re being referred to the best surgeon for your care and not just to the surgeon that gives the best kickback to the referring provider.
