we finally gain some control over the dipper gourd Vines that are overtaking everything, we gather our seed corn, take down the dried corn patch, weed, till and replant BEANS!
As we know, beans are awesome Nitrogen Ninjas, and that's one thing our corn and sunflowers have sucked this soil dry of! It's nearly mid September, so not the best time to be planting anything other than lettuce or carrots, but even without producing an edible bean, our plantlings will produce leaves which will funnel all the nitrogen in the air into the roots and out into the soil. Add a layer of compost in early winter and by spring, our soil will be ready for round 3!
