Exercising an overactive pelvic floor can lead to serious pain and nerve irritation. Exercising an underactive pelvic floor can lead to significant improvements in core strength and lower back, sacroiliac, and hip joint function.

When you are pregnant, you need to perform pelvic floor exercises so that your pelvic floor muscles stay strong. This will help to maintain better bladder control and reduce your risk of prolapse.

When you tighten your abs, the pelvic floor muscles inside your pelvis tighten too. These pelvic floor muscles need to relax to wee and allow penetration for sex. Tight muscles that don’t relax can cause pain and the pelvic floor muscles are no exception.

If these pelvic floor muscles do not relax when you go to wee, your flow may not start straight away or it may be slow.
