ST: Deep Space Nine Titles 4K HDR Fan Recreation ( READ DESCRIPTION)
It's been a while since I've made a video, and it's been even longer since I've attempted to make a video in HDR! This video started out as a glorified tech demo to test my workflow, but I decided to make a full video out of it.

This video was mastered in HDR, and is intended to be viewed on an HDR-capable display. If you're watching on a normal SDR display, things might look a little weird. This is due to YouTube's automated downconversion.

==WORKFLOW BREAKDOWN==
A lot of work went into making an HDR blender workflow that didn't require an HDR reference display (I don't have one of those.) I normally render to PNG, which has an SDR gamma curve baked in. However, it's also possible to render to OpenEXR which will preserve all the HDR scene-referred information.
I brought the OpenEXR renders into Davinci Resolve, and used an ACES workflow. I set my Output Device Transform to Rec.709 so I could get an approximate idea of what the image looked like, and did some light color correction. Then, when everything was ready I simply switched the ODT to Rec.2020 ST2084 and rendered. Just like that, I have a rendered file with all the HDR information from Blender preserved. The last step was to use Wesley Knapp's MetaJector tool to attach the appropriate metadata for YouTube.
