Here are the steps in easy to use txt format:
cd /etc/gdm3/
nano deamon.conf
at the bottom of the [deamon] section add
AllowRoot=true
save and exit deaomn.conf
sudo nano /etc/pam.d/gdm-password
hash out # auth required pam_succeed_if.so user =/= root quit_success
Save and exit gdm-password
sudo shutdown -r 0
On restart at login choose "Not Listed?"
then type in root and your root password
