There is so many topics and subject matters to touch on when it comes to these sea animals but to keep this sort of short I will go over 8 Interesting Facts About Dolphins, please feel free to comment below on a fact that you didn't know about dolphins until you've seen this tutorial. So starting with number 1.
#1 The largest member of the dolphin family is the Orca or killer whale!
Yes news to me as well I never knew this but Orcas are the largest member of the dolphin family and the apex predators of the sea. hence their name (Killer Whale) suggests that they are vicious predators there are almost no recorded attacks on humans in the wild, only when keeping these animals in marine parks or holding tanks is when the attacks occur.
#2 Dolphins have more than one stomach!
Dolphins have 3 stomach which all serve a different purpose when it comes to food consumption. Dolphins swallow their food whole and one of the stomach is used to hold the catch of the day. the 2nd stomach is used for mastication of their food source which is the process of chewing food. Their third stomach is reserved for the final acts of digestion and the process from digestion into waste.
#3 Some dolphins can swim up to speeds of 35mph!
Remember Orca’s are the largest members of the dolphin family which they can hit that 35MPH marker. Bottlenose dolphins can reach top speeds of 18 mph, all the while breathing only two to three times a minute. During a dolphin stampede, some dolphins can reach speeds of 20 miles per hour!
#4 Dolphins have unique names.
Dolphins will remain recognizable for life as an individual by their specific whistle as they continue to grow. it has been proven by scientists and researchers that dolphins give themselves names that signify themselves as individuals. Also pregnant dolphin mothers will begin working with the unborn baby dolphin with their unique name so when they're born they are recognizable to the pod immediately after birth.
#5 Dolphin skin regenerates quickly.
Dolphins regenerate their skin 9x faster than that of any human due to the presence of special stem cells. They can regenerate missing chunks of skin in as little as two weeks.
#6 Dolphins Can Hold Their Breath for Between 8 to 10 Minutes.
On average, the adult bottlenose dolphin are the ones that can hold their breath for a total of between 8 to 10 minutes. When it comes time for diving and catching fish they adjust their bodies when needed to help them maximize their time by slowing down their circulatory system’s blood flow and heart rate to conserve the energy and oxygen needed to stay underwater.
#7 There Are Dolphins in the Amazon River.
The Amazon River dolphin is a well-known species of small marine mammals that have been given many different names. They can be grey, black or pink in color according to their individual makeup. Also Amazon River dolphins are the only dolphins who have the equivalent of molar teeth much like we do.
#8 Dolphins Sleep with Half Their Brain to Watch Predators.
This enables the dolphin to make sharper turns or escape quickly if necessary by switching easily between different systems depending on what task needs completing most urgently. It also signals when to rise to the surface for a fresh breath of air. After approximately two hours, the animal will reverse this process, resting the active side of the brain and awaking the rested half.
There is so much more to point out such as their sonar communication or the fact dolphins do not have any hair even though their mammals. Dolphins first appear as fossils 23-16 millions years ago but also found in mosaic pottery. Literary evidence from ancient Rome paints a similar picture of dolphins to the ones that were found in Greece. The love for dolphins will last forever
