This video is a step-by-step guide on How to Add HDD to Existing RAID-5, 6, 10 step by step.

Three options - it depends on which would meet your needs in upgrading:

1) Delete both virtual disks and create a new virtual disk with all 6 HDD's,

2) Delete both virtual disks and create both RAID 5's across the set of 6 HDD's (like before but with a larger second RAID 5),

3) Add the new drives as a new array altogether (RAID 1), while leaving the existing RAID 5's alone.

1. Insert disks "hot", configure RAID. RAID arrays (virtual disks) are COMPLETELY separate. What happens to one does not affect the other(s).

2. NEVER power off a server to introduce a hot-swappable drive. That goes for replacement drives AND drives to create a new array. The ONLY time you ever power off the system to introduce hot-swappable drives is if you are replacing the controller or moving an entire RAID array from another system.

3. If you have a PERC 5/6//H7x0, you can add drives to an array, essentially converting a 2-disk RAID 1 to a 3-disk RAID 5 - live and without affecting the data.

If you want to add a new hard disk drive (HDD) to an existing Dell server with RAID-5, 6, or 10 configuration, you need to follow these steps:

1. Make sure the new HDD is compatible with your server model and RAID controller. You can check the compatibility list on Dell's website or contact their support team.
2. Power off the server and insert the new HDD into an empty drive bay. Secure it with screws or clips as needed.
3. Power on the server and enter the RAID controller's BIOS setup utility. You can access it by pressing Ctrl+R during the boot process.
4. In the BIOS setup utility, select the RAID array that you want to expand and choose the option to add a new drive. You will see a list of available drives that you can add to the array. Select the new HDD and confirm your choice.
5. The RAID controller will start rebuilding the array with the new HDD. This may take several hours depending on the size and speed of the drives. You can monitor the progress on the BIOS setup utility or use a management software such as Dell OpenManage Server Administrator.
6. Once the rebuild is complete, you can exit the BIOS setup utility and boot into your operating system. The new HDD will be added to the existing RAID-5, 6, or 10 array and increase its capacity and performance.
