Hi everyone and welcome to another piano comparison video on the Merriam Pianos YouTube channel. Today, we’ll be seeing exactly how the new PX-S1100 from Casio compares to the piano it has replaced - the PX-S1000.

There are many folks out there who currently own an S1000 and are trying to understand if it’s worth trading up to the S1100, so hopefully, this video will be helpful.

Background
We’ve done a few recent videos comparing the S1100 to some other pianos available in the same price point, such as the Roland FP10 and Yamaha P125. This of course brings us to the next logical comparison, which is seeing exactly how the S1100 has been improved from the S1000.

Let’s start by looking at what’s common between the S1100 and S1000.

Commonalities
On paper, the tone engine and all tone engine-related specs appear to be identical. Both pianos have 192 note polyphony, the same Casio Multi-Dimensional Morphing AiR sound source, the same 16 watts of amplifier power.

From there, they also have the same action, the same cabinet, the same pedal and stand options, and both are available in 3 finishes.

The user interface has been tweaked slightly, but it is also largely the same.

Differences
A nice upgrade with the S1100 is the inclusion of a Bluetooth adapter that allows for both Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth Audio. The S1000 only had Bluetooth Audio, so this upgrade is definitely welcomed.

The other big difference is the new speaker design featured on the S1100, which Casio claims has really enhanced the overall quality. We are noticing that there definitely is a difference with the sound quality between these two, especially in the mid-range and treble, with the S1100 sounding better.

Thicker chords sound clearer on the S1100, and there’s more definition overall. The improvements aren’t dramatic, but they’re certainly noticeable, especially to the player.

Action
As mentioned above, the action is the same on both pianos. Overall, we’re pretty satisfied with this action for the price point. It’s calibrated very well to the sound engine, and quite responsive on the whole.

Features & Connectivity
The rest of the features and functions are the same across both pianos, with things like Layer, Split, built-in songs and basic recorder.

Both pianos have USB ports, as well as discreet ¼” stereo line outputs. This makes both instruments viable gigging options.

Both pianos can also be operated with 6 AA batteries, which can actually be a big deal for some folks looking for maximum portability.

Despite the new speaker design, Casio has also managed to keep the weight down on the S1100 just like on the S1000, making the S1100 the slimmest and lightest fully weighted 88-note digital piano on the market.

Summary
The biggest musical difference we’re getting from the S1100 is more clarity in the mid-range and more detail in the treble. The Bluetooth adapter is also a nice add on.

Other than that, we’ve pretty much got the same instrument here. Is it worth it for you to upgrade if you already have an S1000? We would say it’s worth it only if you primarily play your digital piano acoustically and can really hear a big difference in the sound.

If this doesn’t describe you, the upgrades probably aren’t enough to justify a trade up.
