The Beer Bat began as an entrepreneurial adventure with the Hartford Yard Goats, and has since grown into a global brand, selling to 27 teams across the US and in numerous markets around the world.
Sam McGee, President of Green Egg Design, Professor at University of Hartford, and inventor of the Beer Bat, pitched his initial idea to the Yard Goats’ manager, he began receiving call after call from teams wanting their own version of The Beer Bat.
However, his ecommerce platform, Shopify, couldn’t keep up. He moved onto WooCommerce, but still wasn't able to achieve the level of customization he needed.
Once he launched on BigCommerce and was able to sell to both B2B buyers and direct-to-consumer (DTC) on the same platform, The Beer Bat was able to take off.
“Last year, all of last year, we sold 235,000 bats. This year, before the first pitch, we’ve sold 300,000,” McGee explained. “BigCommerce has been so reliable in that way, to keep us scalable and moving quickly.”
