AnacondaCon 2018. Tassos H. Sarbanes. This talk will present a brief history of computer vision and processing’s evolution and revolution. We’ll review important studies including Larry Roberts’s Block World, the Summer Vision Project by MIT, Vision by David Marr, Explaining Visual Science by David Lowe, Normalized Cut by Shi & Malik, and Face Detection by Viola & Jones. The focus of the talk will be the introduction of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and their huge impact on the computer vision space. Code examples based on Jupyter Notebooks will be presented by implementing the PASCAL Visual Object and ImageNet (WordNet) datasets. We’ll also cover general topics in machine learning and deep learning related to visual recognition, such as object detection, action classification, and image captioning.
