Do you have sciatic pain or Sciatica?
Pain in the butt?
Pain down the leg?
Where is it coming from?
Did you know there are 3 nerves that can mimic the sciatic Nerve?
The sciatic nerve is the nerve that can cause numbness and tingling in the leg. It comes out of the low back region and goes all the way down to the feet.
The pudendal nerve comes out of the sacrum at S2, S3, S4 and gives sensation to the genitals, perineum, and anus. Bikers can have nerve compression on this nerve because it sits next to the sit bones. Burning in the pelvic floor region could be symptomatic of this nerve being irritated.
The posterior femoral cutaneous nerve comes from the sacrum at S1,S2,S3 and goes down the leg as well. It mimics the sciatic nerve but it’s not as big as the sciatic nerve.
So as much as we say “sciatic,” it’s not always the sciatic nerve.
