Sometimes a shot can be nice, clean, and simple, but that can get boring especially when there are multiple shots like that in a row. Here are a few ways you can spice things up and elevate your cinematography to give your shots more visual interest and make them more cinematic. For these tips, I’m not saying you need to do this every single time or use all five of these tips all at once, but they are simple ways you can elevate your cinematography in your video or film to make it more INTERESTING! The cinematography should be motivated by the subject or story, but if you have a still subject like some fruit in a bowl, here’s what you can do.

I’m a big believer in: it’s not the camera that makes it look good; it’s the filmmaker. Low budget filmmaking can look amazing with practice and thoughtfulness behind each shot. Here’s what I used in this video:

Camera – Canon EOS Rebel T5i
First Lens – Canon EF-S 18–55mm lens
Second Lens – Sigma 18-300 f3.5-6.3 DC OS Macro lens
Tripod – Manfrotto 728B Digi Tripod
Editing Software – Adobe Premiere Pro
No extra lighting. Just the sun!
