Centurion tank mk 3/5. Strv 102, the halfway point between Strv 81 and Strv 104.
The first Centurions in Sweden were the mk 3 and the mk 5 that arrived in 1953 and 1955, in total 240 tanks. The Swedish Army designation was Strv 81. Armed with a QF 20 pounder, 84 x 618 mm gun and the tanks built were in Imperial units, which became a bit of a trouble in Sweden. 1958-1960 Sweden bought another 110 Centurion mk 10 from the UK, which became the Strv 101 in Sweden. Since the newer mk 10s were equipped with the improved 105 mm L7 gun, it was decided that the older Strv 81 would go throught a REMO in 1964-66.
The main change during the REMO was to upgrade the Strv 81 tanks with the same gun as the newer Strv 101. With the new gun, all Strv 81 changed designation to Strv 102. But of course they continued being in Imperial units, the Army had to use 2 standards with their Centurion fleet of tank all throught the Cold war period.
