This video explains Recursive DNS Name Resolution, which is how a DNS server can figure out the IP address for any host on the Internet. First, the server must contact the Root DNS Servers to find the address of the Global Top Level Domain (gTLD) servers. Then, the server contacts the gTLD servers to find the DNS server of the second level domain. Finally the server can ask about a host in that domain.
