The Trudeau government has unveiled a plan that would see 56 properties added to a new public lands bank of locations that are suitable for long-term leases so developers can build affordable housing. Former military bases, Canada Post sites and federal office buildings are among the properties in the new public lands bank. Most will be offered for a long-term lease, not a one-time sale. That will ensure the lands remain in public hands and that housing built on them remains affordable.
