If you order this at a French bakery, you probably won’t get what you’re expecting. (And you might get a weird look, too.)

Nothing quite says “France” like a fresh, buttery, flaky croissant. French people enjoy them just as much as our visitors do, and it’s a very common breakfast food for us. But there’s something that tourists order often that you would never hear a French person ask for, and that’s a “croissant au chocolat”, or a chocolate croissant.

In this lesson, I’ll explain why ordering a “croissant au chocolat” will likely get you something different than you expected. I’ll also go over a few other pastry and desert related things that tourists do in France that you would never see a French person doing, with some alternative vocabulary to use the next time you’re in a viennoiserie.

Take care and stay safe.
😘 from Grenoble, France.
