A Lagos State Federal Lawmaker, Honourable Kalejaiye Adebayo, on Tuesday, advocated for the promotion of local languages as a medium of instruction in primary and junior secondary schools in Nigeria.
In his motion tagged: "Promoting Local Languages as a Medium of Instruction in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in Nigeria," Kalejaiye noted that Nigeria is endowed with an extraordinary linguistic diversity, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of the nation, but, however, regretted that the use of the English language as the medium of instruction has rendered the local languages like Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba ineffective and almost extinct.
