These are my favorite places to visit around Mammoth Lakes. If you have a few days, be sure to check them out!
My brother-in-law (Chris) and nephew (Matt) joined me on a drive up Highway 395 along the Eastern Sierras. After a stop for jerky in Bishop, we continued on to Mammoth Mountain for snowboarding... in June!!
We then met my father (Mitch) at McGee Creek RV Park and Campground. We would spend the next 5 days "glamping" in his beautiful motorhome. McGee Creek is a great place that offers plenty of activities. They even have their own Trout Ponds which can give both veteran and first-time fishermen a great experience!
The next day, we made the short drive to Crowley Lake. Here you can see the incredible Crowley Lake Columns. If you have a high-clearance 4x4 vehicle, you can drive almost all the way there. If not, you're looking at a 4.2 mile roundtrip hike. We encountered a ton of mosquitos from the parking area to the Columns, so be sure to pack the repellent!
That same afternoon, we made our way to Hot Creek. The geothermal activity here is quite amazing and the snow-capped mountains in the background make for breathtaking views. Be sure to grab a picture from one of the viewpoints along the cliff's edge.
The next day, we headed to Convict Lake for what could possibly be one of the most beautiful 3-mile hikes in the world! Unfortunately, Chris had to work remotely that morning, so he missed out. Nevertheless, he was able to join us for the afternoon activities, which included a visit to Earthquake Fault and Obsidian Rock. The variety of natural wonders around Mammoth is simply amazing!
On the way back, we made a stop at Wild Willy's Hot Spring for a dip in the hot natural springs. It was definitely soothing and a nice way to relax the muscles after some active days.
The next day, Chris, Matt and I made the short drive upriver to McGee Creek Pack Station. Here they give guided horseback rides and they also offer a summer camp for kids. My nephew really enjoyed the ride!
That afternoon, we made one last trip to Mammoth Mountain for some boarding. The resort intends to offer skiing and snowboarding through July this year... crazy!
I know I showed a lot of food in this video, but I was pretty proud of my creations on the griddle and dad did some of the cooking too.
