On August 11, the Hawaii Mars departed Sproat Lake for the very last time, as it embarked on its final journey to its new home, the BC Aviation Museum. The Martin Mars water bombers are undoubtably the most iconic aircraft in British Columbia, as many people remember when they were fighting fires in their own communities.
It only seemed fitting to give this legendary aircraft a proper send-off, so plans were organised to have the Hawaii Mars form a formation flight with the Snowbirds and fly over Pat Bay and downtown Victoria before pilots Peter Killian and Rick Matthews landed the Hawaii Mars for the last time.
The resulting flypast was nothing short of spectacular. It's probably the best flyby I am ever going to witness!
Huge thanks to the BCAM and Coulson crews for organising this!
