Koyaanisqatsi or Koyaanisqatsi: Life Out of Balance is a 1982 American experimental art film produced and directed by Godfrey Reggio with music composed by Philip Glass and cinematography by Ron Fricke. Slow-motion and time-lapse footage of uniform cities in a globalized world of commodity culture contrast with natural landscapes across the United States. With neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration, images and music set the tone.
Reggio explained the lack of dialogue in Koyaanisqatsi by stating, 'it's not for lack of love of the language that these films have no words. It's because, from my point of view, our language is in a state of vast humiliation. It no longer describes the world in which we live.'
Koyaanisqatsi is a native American Hopi word meaning 'life out of balance.' With the sheer power of its images, Koyaanisqatsi attempts to show the complex relationship between technology, humanity, and nature.
Koyaanisqatsi is the first movie in the Qatsi film trilogy succeeded by Powaqqatsi (1988) and Naqoyqatsi (2002). Koyaanisqatsi is the best-known of the Qatsi film trilogy and is now considered a cult movie classic.

Aphex Twin (Richard David James or AFX) is an Irish-born British musician, composer and DJ. Aphex Twin is best known for his idiosyncratic work in electronic music styles such as techno, ambient, and jungle. Music journalists from publications such as Mixmag, The New York Times, NME, Fact, Clash and The Guardian have labelled Aphex Twin as one of the most important and influential contemporary electronic musicians.
Raised in Cornwall, Aphex Twin began DJing in the late 1980s at free parties and clubs and later at venues around the West Country. Aphex Twin released a debut EP, Analogue Bubblebath, in 1991 on Mighty Force Records. It brought Aphex Twin acclaim and a cult following and he began to perform at techno clubs and raves across the UK and the rest of Europe. Aphex Twin co-founded the independent label Rephlex Records the same year.
Aphex Twin released a debut album, Selected Ambient Works 85–92, in 1992. Released by Belgian label Apollo, Selected Ambient Works 85–92 garnered wider critical and popular appreciation. That year, Aphex Twin also appeared on the influential Warp Records compilation, Artificial Intelligence. Aphex Twin signed to Warp the following year and subsequently released charting albums such as ...I Care Because You Do (1995) and Richard D. James Album (1996), as well as Top 40 singles "On" (1993), "Come to Daddy" (1997), and "Windowlicker" (1999). With music videos directed by Chris Cunningham, "Come to Daddy" and "Windowlicker" brought Aphex Twin significantly wider international attention.
After releasing Drukqs in 2001, Aphex Twin spent several years releasing music on his own Rephlex label, including the 2005 Analord EP series, and a pair of 2007 releases under the alias the Tuss. In 2014, he made available a previously unreleased 1994 LP as Caustic Window. Aphex Twin returned later that year with the album Syro, which won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album. Aphex Twin has since released charting EPs including Cheetah (2016) and Collapse (2018).
