One year late, the long-awaited new Munch Museum opens in Oslo today. In the house, simply titled Munch, guests can expect “more than art”, enthused Stein Olav Henrichsen, director of the new Munch Museum, opposite the dpa.
There is enough space in the new building right next to the spectacular Oslo Opera House: 13 floors and a gross area of 26,000 square meters. Seven floors are reserved for art; there are also places for concerts, lectures, debates and performances, a cinema, a research library as well as restaurants and cafes. “Seen in this way, it is a holistic experience in which Edvard Munch and his art are at the center,” says Henrichsen.
