Create GPO to Automatically log off an inactive Remote Desktop Session | Windows Server 2019 / 2022
In this video, I explain how to terminate an inactive remote desktop session on Windows Server, where open sessions are connected to the server and after an inactive period, programs remain running even if the user is no longer actively connected or using the application. Thus, power and server resources are consumed. Here, the remote desktop session is terminated after a specified period of inactivity.
The steps are to create a GPO and apply it to domain users who have the authority to connect to the server via the remote desktop.
And the steps to configure group policy objects to set a time limit to end an inactive RDS user session. Open this path in group policy : Computer Configuration → Policies → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Remote Desktop Services → Remote Desktop Session Host → Session Time Limits
Policy name: Set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services session: Set the desired time limit.
Policy name: End session when time limits are reached: Set to Enabled.
