Spider-Man 2 for the PS5 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder for the Nintendo Switch just released to incredible reception. Continuing the ongoing video game success in 2023 from the Super Mario Bros. Movie and PlayStation’s previous big releases this year, I want to examine the history of video game sequels better than the original games, and find out whether or not modern gaming is playing it too safe.
