In this video I explore the 1964 UK General Election, in which Labour came to power under Harold Wilson following 13 years of Conservative government.
After such long period in government it was inevitable that problems would begin to mount and so they did - forcing Macmillan to resign from office following the Profumo Affair.
This pitted the aristocratic Alec Douglas-Home against the youthful, modern Wilson - a contest which Labour were to win narrowly, with a majority of just 4 seats, which was not an inconsiderable achievement given the Conservatives had won the election in 1959 with a majority of 100.
