It is well known that one of the oldest traditions in classical music is to decry the impending doom of classical music. The trouble is, sooner or later, someone might actually be right. This presentation explores post-pandemic conditions facing Canada’s cultural non-profit sector more broadly and considers the future of Canada’s orchestras more specifically. It then closes with a series of provocations around emerging financial and creative opportunities that may be worth exploring as avenues by which to reimagine the business and artistic models of Canada’s symphonic tradition.
