Rainy Hike Bluff Point Connecticut!
Welcome and today we take a hike through Connecticut's beautiful Bluff Point State Park and get caught in some rain. Lyme disease was discovered a few miles from here so I talk about the conspiracy theory that suggests the disease may have been a failed biological weapon that was accidentally released on the population. I focus on conspiracy theorists and why they believe what they do. More important, I show that all of us are conspiracy thinkers about many topics, so it’s unfair to demean others who believe in chemtrails, flat earth, fluoride harms, or vaccine related heart problems. I do this to understand why we believe things that are wrong, and how do we know it’s wrong?
Why are we irrational? We usually consider the “nurture” part of the “nature vs nurture” debate, when sometimes we have genetic behaviors (I call them subroutines, like in programming) that drive actions. Identifying these behavioral subroutines may help us control them better: whether to increase them, decrease them, or deflect them.
Bluff Point is the VIP section of the outdoors, where trees whisper secrets and squirrels practice stand-up comedy. The hiking trails are like catwalks for chipmunks, and the beach is the sandy stage for seagulls doing their best impressions of Shakespearean actors.
