In this Tutorial, I'll show you how to create a time lapse effect in After Effects.
We'll use Time Remap, Posterize Time, CC Wide Time, Exposure.
First of all, we need to create a sequence, about a minute long with moving objects.
Then we precompose that sequence and enable time remap for the new precomp.
We take the second keyframe from the end of the sequence and drag it left, to around 5-7 seconds in the timeline and adjust the work area.
One minute of animation is now happening in 5-7 seconds.
Next we add Posterize Time to the precomp and set the frame rate to 8 frames.
That's like if you would take a picture every few seconds, instead of filming constantly.
Then we add CC Wide Time to the precomp and set the steps to 2.
This effect looks forwards and backwards in time several steps and overlays this steps.
For blur, set Native Motion Blur to ON. Which I recommend to do.
Then we activate the Motion Blur Icon for the precomp in the Timeline, which simulates shutter duration. We need to go inside the precomp and activate motion blur for all layers there as well.
Inside the precomp, we add an adjustment layer and add Noise. This adds some texture to graphic shapes and gives them a more filmed look.
And we add Exposure to change the light over time. Unless you are in a completely dark room with constant artificial light, brightness changes.
We animate the exposure property with a wiggle expression: wiggle(8,0.5)
Which changes the exposure 8 times per second around +/- 0,5.
