This beautiful chair has lived many lives over the years (initially my Grandma’s then with my aunt and now here) so I thought it was finally time for a well deserved revive!
I find when there’s a variety of surfaces it’s handy to have a collection of sanding tools to approach all the curves and angles. For me this included an orbital sander, sanding block and a classic piece of sanding paper. I also make sure to have different grit sizes for this process, starting with more coarse ones then working towards a finer finish.
The original timber came up sooo nice once all the scratched up lacquer was removed. And normally I would opt for a lighter/natural finish but I wanted to honour the original mid century style with a walnut stain.
I then used the old cushions as a template to sew some new ones, slipped it all in place, and I can’t believe how well the tones all blended together!!!
I love that I could return this sentimental piece back to its former glory all while keeping it timeless for our home so we can use it for years to come ☺️
