Today we are going to switch things up a bit and take a look at an item unrelated to computer peripherals. In this installment I will look at and test the Sywon 60W soldering iron kit. This kit can be bought off Amazon for $22.
It comes with almost everything you need to get started. In the carrying case I found a Y-Stand, 5 additional soldering tips (6 total), a solder sucker, 60/40 solder, 60W soldering iron and a user manual. Just grab a sponge to clean the excess solder off the iron's tip and you are ready to go.
The quality of the iron itself is nothing to awe at. It feels cheap and light but it gets the job done. It is very easy to swap out tips, it has a comfortable rubber grip, and it is equipped with temperature control. I had no problem soldering some through-hole components onto a prototyping board using the included iron.
The accompanying accessories are of good quality. The solder sucker worked well, the included tips all fit on the iron, the Y-stand was frustrating to use but served its intended purpose, and the included solder was decent but I prefer my rosin core solder.
This is a great kit for anyone who wants something cheap just to make a repair every once an awhile or for someone who wants something that just works and is portable / expendable.
