Vinegar (mostly diluted acetic acid, CH3COOH) is added to a beaker with solid baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO3). Carbon dioxide bubbles are produced: NaHCO3 + CH3COOH = CH3COONa + H2O + CO2.
