In this German lesson, you'll learn negation using the negative article KEIN (and its declined forms in the nominative, accusative, dative, or genitive case) and the negation particle NICHT, which negates either an entire sentence, a verb, or a noun with the definite article. So saying NO is not that difficult. With us, you'll learn to negate an adverb, an adjective, a pronoun, a complement with a preposition, a verb, a noun, or a whole sentence.
The negative article "kein, keine, keinen, keinem, keiner, keines" always comes before a noun. The sentence order for "nicht" is different. Here is a brief summary of the most important rules:
"nicht" is placed before the clause we want to negate.
before a preposition, if there is one.
"Nicht" only comes at the end of the sentence when we negate the verb in position two.
In this video, you'll also learn the indefinite pronouns for things: "etwas" - something (invariant) and "jemand" (somebody) : "niemand" - "nobody" (are declined). Indefinite pronouns are substitutes like personal pronouns. The difference is that indefinite pronouns always have a general meaning and cannot be defined precisely. They cannot be assigned to a specific person or thing. They describe something not concrete and general.
Example:
Please bring me something from the bakery! (indefinite, not concrete, anything).
Please bring me a piece of cake from the bakery! (definite, concrete, just cake and nothing else).
