When you're retouching in Photoshop and focusing on local adjustments rather than global ones, you’ll likely find yourself zooming in a lot. For tasks like skin retouching, you'll often be working at 100% magnification or even closer. The challenge with this approach is that you can become so absorbed in the fine details that you lose sight of how these adjustments affect the overall image – essentially, you’re missing the forest for the trees. Consequently, you might find yourself frequently zooming out to check the overall impact, taking notes, and then zooming back in to make further adjustments. While this is a common practice, there is a more efficient alternative.

You might think using dual monitors would solve this, but you can actually maximize the use of a single monitor. Photoshop allows you to create a duplicate or mirrored view of your image on screen. This feature lets you work on the image in one view and see the changes reflected in another view simultaneously. My preferred setup involves having one panel display the entire image, while the other is zoomed in at 100% or more for detailed work. This way, I can perform precise retouching and immediately see how it affects the image as a whole, providing the best of both worlds.
