An integrated development environment, or IDE, is like a tool belt for software developers. Learn how IDEs aid developer productivity and software development by consolidating tools for coding, building, and testing.

Software development is incredibly complicated, and challenging for even the most experienced developers. Integrated development environments, often through a single UI, provide easy access to code libraries, test platforms, text editors, and compilers. This can eliminate the time-wasting burden of choosing and configuring software development tools, and even time spent otherwise learning them.

IDEs take many forms, and can be cloud-based, native, or mobile, as well as open source or commercial. They can be language specific, or support multiple languages, and can also contain programmable editors and build automation tools.

Let us know what you think about integrated development environments in the comments below. Do you use them? And please hit the like button.
