How to Analyze Football Match in 2023 | Footy Tactics
In this video, we go over what I do to analyze football matches. Every time I watch a match, I like to identify what the team is doing In Possession, Out of Possession, and during Transitions. Use these questions below when analyzing your matches 👇
IN POSSESSION
Does the team try to build up from deep or push the defensive line up for a long ball?
Where do fullbacks move in buildup? (One flat and one deep?One inverted and one wide?)
What does the defensive midfielder do in build up? (Drop in, create triangles with CBs and FBs? Etc)
What patterns do they use to get into the final third?
Do they try to circulate the ball or aim to move forward immediately?
Are there any certain rotations that players do often?
Who is taking up the half spaces in build up and in the finishing phase? Do they have any effect on the opposition's lines?
How often does the team aim to switch the ball? Do they drag opponents into a certain area?
What is the role of the striker in different parts of the game? (Does he drop deep, pins the defenders back, rotates with the winger etc)
What is their aim in the final phase? (Aim to get cross in, combine through the middle, etc)
Which midfielder and fullback is more attacking and which one is more defensive?
What is the player's reaction when winning the ball back? (Go into transitions, circulate the ball, etc)
What is their strategy on offensive free kicks?
OUT OF POSSESSION
Is their press central oriented or aim to push the team inside?
Do they have a certain pressing trigger? (Fullbacks, goalkeeper, etc)
How have they forced a turnover or a clearance in their press?
How has the opponent outplayed them in the pressing phase?
What are their formations in the deep block, mid block, pressing phase of the game?
What happens when the team loses the ball? (Counter press, get into their line, etc)
What are their strategies in defensive set pieces ?
