To edit the audio and video of a clip independently but keep them linked, just hold down the ALT / OPTION key and start dragging in either end. This will trim the video, but keep both audio & video linked so they are still synchronized.
Of course it works the other way around as well, just hold down the ALT/OPTION key and start dragging on the IN or OUT point of the audio.
This is a good way to create an L-Cut without messing up the sync of your clip.
