Simple Way to Improve Your Art [ PRACTICE THIS!! ]
Take basic forms and cross hatch with various types of thin lines at angles of about 45 degrees. Notice in the first sphere that I didn't try to be precise and it still looks dimensional.
The main thing is that you pay attention to the value that you are creating by controlling the distance between the lines. Practice this often because it effects so much of what you will draw later.
You will gain a better understanding of how to create depth and dimension within your illustrations!
