Both ss and netstat are command-line utilities used in Linux/Unix-based operating systems to display information about network connections and socket statistics.

ss (which stands for "socket statistics") is a more modern and powerful alternative to netstat. It can display more detailed and accurate information about network connections and sockets, and can filter results more efficiently. ss can also display more TCP and state information, as well as support for IPv6 and extended TCP options.

On the other hand, netstat (which stands for "network statistics") is an older utility that is still widely used. It can display basic information about active network connections, including their local and remote addresses, port numbers, and connection states. It also supports various options to filter and customize the output.

ss is generally considered to be a more powerful and feature-rich tool than netstat. However, netstat is still widely used and can be sufficient for many basic network diagnostic tasks.
