The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in Catania reported that 6th paroxysm episode from Etna's Voragine crater is over.
The lava-fountaining episode began to diminish at about 00:30 local time. The decreasing trend lasted until around 01:20 local time, when the high-magnitude explosive activity came to an end.
As is typical during paroxysms, the activity generated multiple lava overflows that traveled beyond the western rim of the Bocca Nuova crater.
Lava fountains were accompanied by an ash-laden column, reaching up to approx. 9,5 km altitude in the S-SW and E-SE directions. Ash and lapilli falls have been reported in Piano Vetore, Nicolosi, Ragalna and Pedara. A light ash rain has also been reported in Sicily's capital, Catania.
Volcanic tremor started to decrease after reaching its spike at 22:50 local time, currently at medium levels.
Currently, weak strombolian explosions persist in the Voragine crater.

AIV is the Associazione Italiana di Vulcanologia. The AIV's primary objectives are: a) The organization and promotion of Conventions, national and international study conferences, excursions, aimed at deepening volcanological knowledge and the problems connected to the protection of natural heritage, resources and volcanic risk. b) The commitment to work to improve the conditions of teaching and training in the field of Volcanology and to affirm its didactic, educational and professional values also through the organization of schools and refresher courses; c) Support the action of other national and international institutions that carry out activities to spread basic geological culture and its application aspects; d) collaboration with national and international organizations interested in spreading volcanological culture also by following schemes and procedures agreed with the National Civil Protection and other similar ones existing in other countries of the European Community and outside the EU; e) The promotion of communication and exchange of knowledge between Volcanology and other disciplinary areas, even outside of Earth Sciences (Engineering, Archaeology, Agriculture, etc.), creating and disseminating bibliographic services and support for training activities, also for specific professional figures in these areas; f) The promotion of initiatives aimed at encouraging the presence of scholars of volcanological disciplines in interprofessional bodies of a public and private nature; g) Promoting interaction between Universities, Research Institutions, Public Bodies, Professional Orders and Companies. The Association is strictly non-partisan and apolitical.

I am a geologist by profession and training. This is an educational channel devoted mostly to spread of geological knowledge and education. I work hard to make the material you see presented to you in this short concise videos. Please support this channel by "LIKE"ing and sharing the videos and help them to be seen. I am making many videos every month. It is a constant stream of unique graphics and presentations of scientifically accurate and timely information about volcanoes. I am here for you to report everything about this fascinating subject. This is my expertise, my professional training, my education and my job.
Some of the images in the videos are produced by recent advances in Artificial Intelligence. They are just pretty pictures that AI is producing when a text describes a volcanic event or geological phenomenon for them. They are by no means represent the reality and are used here only for their graphical merits.
