10-Year-Old Girl Helped Save Stranded Giant Pacific Octopus
A giant Pacific octopus that had gotten stranded ashore in Washington state was helped back to the sea thanks in part to the efforts of a 10-year-old girl.
The girl had come upon the octopus, which was between 7 and 8 ft long and weighed 80 to 100 lbs, while exploring WA’s Bay View State Park on March 15. She poured water on the marine animal from a toy pail until wildlife officials could respond accordingly. Marine Educator Mira Lutz Castle told the Skagit Valley Herald that the octopus would not have survived otherwise.
