Interview with Linda Hyökki, member of the EU-funded project MAGIC advisory board, in the framework of interviews with participants of the Muslim Voices for Diversity Dialogue, the closing event of the EU-funded project MAGIC that took place at the European Parliament on the 20th of March 2023.
Linda is a Ph.D. Candidate in Civilization Studies at the Ibn Haldun University, Istanbul. Her doctorate thesis focuses on Islamophobia in Finland and the experiences of Muslim converts on racialization. She works as the Coordinator of the anti-Muslim racism working group at the European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR). Furthermore, she has published policy papers, academic articles, and popular media pieces on Islamophobia in Europe and works in various projects as a freelance consultant on Islamophobia.
MAGIC aims to prevent gender Islamophobia in Spain and in Belgium, in particular in media outlets, by equipping Muslim communities´ leaders and Muslim women, CSOs working on diversity and students of journalism as important multipliers in Spain and Belgium with skills and tools necessary to recognize and stand against stereotypes against Muslim women in public narratives; and, by enhancing knowledge, dialogue and mutual cooperation among those groups and media practitioners.
