5S is a mnemonic for remembering the five pillars of the visual workplace.
In a visual workplace, visual cues — from signs to prepared kits — show people how to carry out operations productively and safely.
The following list of steps gives the short words or phrases that give 5S meaning:
1. Sort
2. Set in order
3. Shine (or Scrub in some organizations)
4. Standardize
5. Sustain
