Steps on how to clean, erase, and format a disk drive by removing and deleting all partitions. These steps show how to do a quick or full format from the file explorer. And how to use the Command Prompt to clean the drive, and then use the Disk Management window to initialize the drive, and last how to then format the drive partition.

Quick Format = Data is marked as deleted and the operating system will now know that space is ready to be re-used. All data is still present, and can be recovered.

Full Format = Data is completely erased and disk drive is zeroed out completely. This makes it more difficult for the data to be recovered, but should not be considered a secure erase (multiple passes are required for a secure erase). Full Format also checks for disk errors, and can take multiple hours to complete.

Command Prompt
clean = Similar to Quick Format.
clean all = Similar to Full Format, will zero out the drive.
