In this episode of Hall of Fame Connections: Extra Innings, our panel of Carlos Peña, Lindsay Berra and Hall of Fame curator Erik Strohl take a deeper dive into "From the Catch to the Steal."

The team breaks down key moments and players from the 1954 World Series between the New York Giants and Cleveland Indians and examines Willie Mays’ glove used to make “The Catch.” They also look at Ty Cobb’s glove to compare styles.

The Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, playing the New York Yankees in the 1962 World Series. But the team did not return to the Fall Classic until 1989, when they faced their Bay Area rivals, the Oakland Athletics. Peña, Berra and Strohl take a look at Oakland A’s star Dave Stewart’s jersey from that Series. They explore the origins of the “white elephant” logo made famous by the A’s and complete the connection to Dave Roberts’ cleats from the 2004 Postseason.

Artifacts from this and all Hall of Fame Connections episodes are waiting to be discovered at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, where all your favorite baseball memories live. The Museum preserves history, honors excellence and connects generations. Beyond the iconic Hall of Fame Plaque Gallery are exhibits that tell the story of baseball’s impact on our lives, and our country’s history. The Museum exhibits draw from a collection of 40,000 lovingly preserved artifacts and more than 3 million library items to bring your stories and lesser-known tales to life.
